Curaçao Sea Aquarium: since 1984

Back in the early 1980s, Adrian “Dutch” Schrier dreamed of bringing his passion for the sea closer to the general public in Curaçao. He was aware that the beauty and health of the sea surrounding our island would not last forever if the public was not educated about its vital importance to us all. This led him to found the Curaçao Sea Aquarium in 1984, which grew into the most unique spot for visiting tourists and residents alike.
Celebrate our 35th year anniversary with us!
The Curaçao Sea Aquarium gives visitors of all ages access and education about Curaçao’s amazing underwater world. The facility initially consisted of only a handful of aquaria, but today, more than 35 years later, the Curaçao Sea Aquarium developed into a multidimensional park with marine exhibitions and various activities.

Establishment of Sea Aquarium Park
Over the years there have been several additions to the Sea Aquarium Park. Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the facility now includes the main aquarium hall, Dolphin Academy, Animal Encounters, Ocean Lens and Substation. Each one features unique and interactive programs with a focus on marine life education. Together they all form what has become known as the Sea Aquarium Park.

Open Water System

Curaçao Sea Aquarium is one of the most unique aquariums in the world! Why is that? Because due to our Open Water System, all the marine life in our facility is in direct contact with the open sea. In our Open Water System, we do not pre-filter the water due to the richness of nutrients and oxygen carried in for the animals. We protect what we love!
