Curaçao Sea Aquarium is Curaçao’s premiere location for marine life exploration! We use an Open Water System at our facility, which means that fresh seawater is continuously pumped into the aquaria and returned to the sea through overflows creating natural environments for all marine creatures without using chemicals or filters. This makes Curaçao Sea Aquarium one of the world’s most unique sea aquariums. Together with Animal Encounters, Substation Curacao, the Ocean Lens and Curacao Dolphin Academy N.V. they form a fascinating world of diverse marine organisms and ecospheres just waiting for you to come and explore.

Job Description

An aquarist is responsible for the care of fish, corals and invertebrates housed in the Curacao Sea Aquarium Park. Aquarists have a wide variety of duties primarily focused on providing care for marine creatures and maintaining a quality and presentable environment for these animals to live in.

Key responsibilities

• Food Preparation.
• Feeding Schedules and Regimes
• Maintaining and cleaning of the aquaria and other animal housing
• Collecting live foods
• Collecting and culturing live-rock
• Animal Husbandry (touch tanks)
• System Management (touch tanks & aquaria)
• Assisting with collections, holding, and quarantine
• Social Media and Communications
• Assisting visiting scientists and research programs

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school (MAVO/HAVO/VWO)
• Having a natural affection for animals, experience with working with animals professionally is a pre
• Knowledge of marine aquaria, organisms, and/or ecosystems
• Good swimming skills, open water dive certificate is a plus
• Proactive and an outside non-desk job mentality
• Eager to learn
• Flexible
• Ability to work independent or in a team
• Creative
• A good command of Dutch and English language, Papiamentu and Spanish is recommended
